Macbeth Is A Tragic Hero, Who Was Overly Ambitious And

Macbeth is a tragic hero, who was overly ambitious and self righteous. Throughout the story, Macbeth’s character constantly changes, but one thing that stays consistent through all of this was one word: blood. Macbeth is blood thirsty and will do anything to achieve his goal. Unfortunately, it just so happened that it involves a lot of blood to achieve it. William Shakespeare portrays Macbeth as someone willing to kill for what he wants, blood soaks almost every line of the play because of Macbeth’s selfish lust to become king. Blood symbolizes Macbeth’s guilt throughout the story. After killing Duncan, Macbeth’s guilt registers and begins to grow as well as the importance of blood. â€Å"Will all great Neptune’s ocean wash this blood clean†¦show more content†¦Because of all the murdering Macbeth is doing, blood is everywhere and may even be considered normal. Macbeth is slowly developing into a murderer and there is no turning back for him. â€Å"I am in blood stepp’d in so far that, should I wade no more, returning were as tedious as go o’er† (3.4.136-138). Macbeth is doing so much damage and decides that there is no salvation or taking back what he has done. Little does he know, this is the beginning of the end for him. Macbeth realizes that ever since he killed Duncan, more blood has been following, turning it into a blood massacre. â€Å"It will have blood, they say: blood will have blood† (3.4.122).Once blood has been shed, more blood will co me. Macbeth assumes that Banquo’s murder will be avenged with his own life. Blood is used to show all the murder and death that follows Macbeth. â€Å"Why did you bring these daggers from the place? They must lie there:go carry them, and and smear the sleepy grooms with blood† (2.2.49-51). Lady Macbeth tell Macbeth to smear blood on the guards to frame them as Duncan’s killers, but no matter what they do, the blood and guilt will follow them because they are the true murders. Murder is amplified by the motif of blood and it goes to show how Macbeth falls very quickly and becomes a tragic murderer. Blood’s symbolism seems to serve as an indicator of each character’s emotional progression. Macbeth, because of blood, evolves into a tragic hero.Show MoreRelatedThe Tragic Heroes Of The Great Gatsby By F.
